Skincare Tips from A Vogue Covergirl

What got you started in modeling and skincare industry?

At a young age I was put in a television commercial and immediately I loved being in front of a camera. I learned quickly it’s not an easy industry, however. I have a letter that literally says, “You don’t have a career as a model.” I framed that letter and used it as motivation. I looked at it every day. I pursued my dream, I never gave up on it. After a lot of hard work, and a Vogue cover under my belt, I feel fulfilled.

The fashion and skincare industry go hand-in-hand. Being in front of a camera so much meant healthy skin was always a priority in my day-to-day life. These days healthy fashion is on the rise--clothing made from recyclable materials, harmful dyes losing popularing, and consumers being more aware of their green footprint.

What influenced your decision to go into skincare?

I began having problems with my skin. I was having allergic reactions with many of the commonly used products on sets and shoots. I began researching which ingredients were being used when I discovered countless toxic chemicals in most products. My health has always been very important to me, and wanting to avoid toxins lead me to a holistic approach beauty and living a balanced life. Soon I transitioned to using only natural, healthy skin care products.

With that, I partnered with Retro Co. I couldn’t wait to offer this line to women so they could have a choice, so they could be aware of alternatives, so they can be more healthy and happy.

What is Retro Co?

Retro Co is a natural skin care company, providing natural products which include the latest technology in skin products. The line is made fresh with each order and is customized for the customer needs. It’s simple and uncomplicated yet modern and fun. Most importantly, they have an award winning LED Facial Mask and several other very cost-effective devices for the face which create more collagen, smooth out skin tone, and tighten facial muscles.

What is a critical element to taking care of your skin?

There are a few elements to a good skin care routine. I have stuck with a routine over the years and I try not to stray from it. The most basic element is making it a point to cleanse my skin twice a day, and always remove my makeup at the end of the day. Serums are something I love to use, so I take time to apply them gently everyday. Cleanse and treat your skin gently, don’t over-scrub it. Skin needs a healthy barrier of bacteria on its outer layer and you don’t want to scrub that away. I personally use a mild liquid cleanser, as toners can be too drying for my skin type. Lastly, I use a day and night serum religiously.

To embrace your natural beauty, what are the most necessary makeup essentials?

There are five essentials a woman should always having in her makeup bag: A cream blush for a nice dewy look but not overpowering; a great mascara; a lip color - I prefer gloss; eyebrow wand or pencil; and lastly a concealer or foundation with a high SPF. These will give you an effortless no makeup makeup look, that will be dewy and refreshing.

Because the goal is to have a dewy and effortless look, my recommendations would be to avoid face powders, harsh eyeliners, and lip liners. Embrace your natural beauty. Accentuate your strongest features on your face with a touch of makeup. A beauty routine that can be done in a few minutes and give you a natural glow to help you look fresh, rested and vibrant.

What are the benefits of using natural cosmetics?

It’s not commonly known that what goes on the skin gets absorbed and processed by the liver. A clean liver means clean skin, and visa versa. If the liver and bowels have to deal with a daily onslaught of chemicals and poison, it will reflect the condition of the skin and brightness of the eyes.

Getting into the habit of reading labels and gaining knowledge of what the ingredients really are and should be used for will help your skin in the long run.
